Meat Bell / Color Drained Moments by Ben Hirschkoff
October 05 - 28, 2023
Opening Reception / Thursday, October 05, 5–8pm
Ben Hirschkoff returns to ceramics as a sculptural medium in this exhibition of new works.
Meat Bell is an amorphous mass vaguely resembling a large heart-like bell dripping with washes of polychrome goo. Affixed copper discs trigger short audio clips when touched relaying quotes of dire warnings of environmental consequence from scientists, professors and commentators recorded from online videos. Color Drained Moments are an accompanying series of abstract ceramic “moments”. Painted monochrome silver they conjure a shiny future and a grayscale past, perched upon platforms of vivid color pooling as though drained from them.
