Mapping SOIL’s Legacy: A Living Archive of Artist-Run Innovation
This visualization traces SOIL’s membership from 1995–2025, mapping how our collective has grown and shifted over three decades. It reflects the many artists who have joined, contributed, and shaped this cultural community—revealing not only the scale of SOIL, but also the individual threads that together weave our history.
The member map is part of an evolving database created to gather and share our story as an artist-run collective and ensure that SOIL’s cultural legacy remains visible, accessible, and relevant for future generations. Conceived as a living, dynamic archive, it continues to grow through member participation.
As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, SOIL affirms the importance of preserving our collective memory. By making our network visible, we anchor SOIL’s legacy within the broader cultural ecosystem—ensuring that future artists, curators, and researchers can trace and build upon our cultural history.
Erin, it would be great to have this “explore the map” part really set apart in a button so people know where to go to click in the interactive map…
