Lo Sagrado, Nuestros Cuentos is a tribute to the themes of labor and immigration and the selflessness the artists’ ancestors provide every day. Artists Nico Inzarella, Christie Tirado, and Scott Méxcal, present a range of paintings, prints, and multimedia works that representationally and metaphorically illustrate intersectional identities that have traditionally been omitted from art historical narratives and excluded from art institutions.
ARTIST BIOS /
Nico Inzarella is a Mexican-American artist working to preserve familial culture through the medium of photography. Over the past 20 years Inzarella has traveled extensively throughout Mexico and Central America taking thousands of photos, whilst combining fine arts and graphics arts to create the final pieces.
As a Mexican-American artist, Christie Tirado’s concepts have often revolved around the many diasporas that constitute her identity—her Loteria pieces being representative of such exploration. This existential crossroad has expanded recently to include the social dimension of the region she currently resides in—Yakima, WA.
The newest body of work by Chicano artist Scott Méxcal (McCall) is an exploration of personal identity in the context of broader latinx/indigenous narratives and touches on themes of displacement, migration, and language. Drawing from the artist's personal family history, work mentoring children who have immigrated and been incarcerated, this work aims to present a broader viewpoint of what it is to be American, Latinx, and to offer commentary on issues of multiculturalism, assimilation, white supremacy/racism, and sexism.
