Whether we lived in a house, a hospital room, or a tent, our lives have shrunk in the last two years.

Recent Future is a series of more than one hundred tiny paintings, made with a plastic material called Shrinkydink, a children’s toy. When heated in an ordinary oven, the original 4" x 5" paintings contract to 1/3 of their size, with textural artifacts resulting from heat and shrinkage. These miniatures – 1.75" x 2.25" – are cameos, portraits of our time and experience.

Artist Biography:

Ziegler’s practice includes painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, and artist books.

She has won the Artist Trust Fellowship in both Visual Arts and Design, a Foundation for Contemporary Art Travel Grant, and a teaching residency at Kansas City Art Institute. She was included in Antony Gormley’s "One and Other", with a performance/installation in Trafalgar Square, London, and in "Out of Sight", curated by Greg Lundgren in Seattle. She has shown in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles and London.

Curator Deirdre Visser, Desai Matta Gallery, San Francisco: "Ziegler’s creative process mirrors that conjunction of interior and exterior, that place between the psyche, the body, and the world."
