Technically Beautiful
Owen and Terry Plummer
June 7 – July 1, 2007
Owen and Terry Plummer are a husband and wife duo
who live and work in Vancouver BC.
Growing up in the Queen Charlotte Islands Owen was surrounded by the powerful imagery of the Haida and his artwork pays homage to the Totemic form. The figures in his drawings are a chimerical mixture of human elements, land and sea creatures, plant life, and images of religion and mythology. Together they form a supernatural whole that celebrates richness and bizarreness of the seen and unseen world.
Terry graduated from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and works primarily in sculpture and illustration. She explores concepts of nationalism, popular culture and the natural world using textiles and wry humor. Investigating the connections between nature, politics and the Canadian psyche, Terry uses iconic figures to lead the viewer on a tour of a manufactured landscape where savage beasts lurk in an unsettlingly passive way.
