Artists' workspaces are cluttered not only with the tools of their trade but various collections from which they derive inspiration. Some collections are formal, such as carefully labeled fossils under glass and others are considerably less, like a stack of dog-eared fashion magazines.
Collections and Creations examines the relationship between that which an artist accumulates and that which an artist creates, showcasing collections and art by the diverse group of artists who make up SOIL. The exhibition is divided into sections for each artist. Each section includes a sample of the artist's collection, examples of their work, and a statement by the curator on the relationship between their collection and work. In some of the work, the influence of their collections is obvious, while in others it is not.
