LOOK-ALIKES

Julie Alpert

June 05 – 28, 2014

Look-alikes explores the temporary nature of staging our living spaces and the relative value of the items we choose to decorate with. A pair of identical and unusual lamps (one purchased at Goodwill and the other given to Julie when the giver realized they owned the same lamp) are modified with paint and vinyl, then arranged in the gallery with other modified household items. The resulting installation uses light and shadow to create a mysterious coded narrative where a pair of twin lamps are the main characters.
