The image today has an elastic feature. Pixels and vectors expand exponentially, forming the ground and surfaces that shape contemporary life. Each new image appropriates its surroundings, directing the flow of emotion, resources, capital, and popular opinion in its wake. In large numbers, images are agents of erosion, wearing down the senses – senses of urgency, agency, perception, satisfaction, and reality. Increasingly over the last century, images have evolved to become more fluid and more potent. Once a mirror, vehicle for expression, or a simple representation of nature, the image no longer relates to reality, rather referring to optics, narrative, marketing, and surveillance. In What’s Different? eight WAVE Collective artists, take on the uncertainty of life within a reality constructed by and for images.
Closing Conversation, Saturday, May 1, 2021, 4:00-5:00pm , online
Join us for an online closing conversation with WAVE artists, exploring the challenges of creating art individually and as a collective over the last year. In a casual format, the exhibiting artists will invite audience members to join the conversation to discuss the ideas presented in the work and create community between artist-run spaces.
