SOIL Artist-Run Gallery announces there’s nothing more to prove a solo exhibition at SOIL Gallery by interdisciplinary artist barry johnson that is solely made up of sculpture works. barry is often known for his use of colors and often works on a wide range of media, but in response to events happening around the nation and his pursuit in architecture, he is presenting a show which only uses the color black. This show will boast a color of canvas sculpture works, metal/iron works and the entire galley space will be transformed into an immersive installation.
barry johnson is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist whose work explores race, community, and culture. He has held residencies throughout the Puget Sound region, Hawaii; Tulum, Mexico; and Argentina. barry authored and illustrated a children’s book titled, Oh What Wonderful hair. barry’s work has been shown and collected around the world in ranging mediums. He is also a muralist and has created multiple works across the Pierce and King County region.
barry has also spoken at a TEDx event in Seattle about the power of creating multiple personas to aid you in your career. He has received multiple grants and awards including the Edwin T. Pratt Award, smART Ventures award, the 2018 GAP Award and he was a finalist for the Conductive Garboil Grant in 2018. barry is currently going to school for architecture and lives in Federal Way.
The opening reception will have the artist present along with music and a performance.
