May 04 – June 30, 2020
Due to COVID-19, SOIL’s May and June programming was moved to 2021. Instead of leaving this real estate empty, FishBowl Studio will activate the SOIL space into a temporary studio and exhibition space for SOIL members. Participants in the Fish Bowl will periodically go LIVE via SOIL’s Instagram @soilart page to showcase their work and answer questions from viewers.
Out of the Bowl! Additional SOIL members will share virtual glimpses of their studios or guest artists’ spaces @soilart See works in progress, tools and media in use, and gain insight into their current practice.

May 04 – May 10 / Josh R McDonald
McDonald will be using his time in the FishBowl Residency to begin preparation for the New Members show in August. This includes experimentation involving four large 96 x 48 inch panels. Initially obtained to cover the windows of a local art gallery closing in response to the statewide “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order, the leftover plywood will find new meaning and serve as a plane for his latest body of work.
May 13 – 21 / Forrest Perrine
Forrest Perrine is going to be using SOIL as the set for a show he’s making called What’s Not To Love? in which he interviews people about their creative practices. He will also be using it as a painting studio between shoots.
May 23 – 27 / Jocelyn Beausire
During her FishBowl Residency, Beausire will explore how the absence of her body represents in white-box space, how one can be an audience to a memory of action, and the stickiness of present time. These experiments will work with fresh apricots, white paint, fly paper, and sleep.
May 29 – 30 / Claire Johnson
During Johnson’s FishBowl Studio time, the artist will focus on new works. Image is of new work in progress.
June 01 – 10 / Erin Elyse Burns
During Erin Elyse Burns’ June 2020 FishBowl residency, she will activate the gallery space with video projection and performative action.
June 12 – 15 / Benjamin Hirschkoff
During this 4 day residency Ben Hirschkoff will explore bridge forms connecting things to things using material odds and ends from his studio. He will spend at least 10 hours a day making, remaking. Progress will be documented every hour.
June 17 – 21 / Colleen RJC Bratton
Bratton will celebrate the summer solstice and mourn global warming with a fabric, light, sound, and sculpture installation.
June 23 – 27 / Philippe Hyojung Kim
Philippe will be making temporary sculptural moments and gestures with plaster and plastic casts pulled from domestic kitchenwares and office supplies.
