Tideline

At the high-water line, on any beach, the ocean leaves a line, a more or less continuous deposit of fine shell or debris on the foreshore or berm, tree parts and rocks are all brought in twice every twenty-four hours. Stuff is deposited, moved or removed. The drawings in this show are made from collaged fragments of drawings of this tidal debris collected at the beach. In my current studio you could find a pile of sticks, shells, fragments of tree roots, seaweed and stones collected over the past 4 or 5 years. The drawings are stored in my flat files and finally torn up and reassembled in a new configuration. Ink is pooled on the collaged paper which is reworked and abraded, replicating to some extent, the action of the sea.
