SOIL Artist-Run Gallery and Actualize AiR present Service/Symbiosis, a group exhibition of member artists and residents respectively of their collaborative artworks and singular expressions. This shared exhibition takes place across these two locations in Pioneer Square. The production of artworks and culminating exhibition is a practice in creative placekeeping, to get to know new neighbors and build community.Actualize AiR, a residency for 28 artists, began in 2023 at the downtown Coliseum Building, but moved to a vacant office building on Prefontaine Place in Fall 2025. Now with a gallery and more studios,
Actualize is fostering and accelerating the careers of annual cohorts of emerging artists with work space, opportunities and community.
For 31 years, SOIL artists have operated this nonprofit gallery for guest and member artists to exhibit, develop, and advance challenging work. SOIL is committed to exhibiting and celebrating art of diverse backgrounds, media and content. It has called the Tashiko Kaplan building in Pioneer Square home since 2003.
Service/Symbiosis is the generative result of collaborations, discourse, and shared energies. Bringing together a broad spectrum of material, practice, meaning, and expressions, the 27 artists in this exhibition are accomplices in experimentation and interpretation. Whether working in service of, or in symbiosis with, each other and their work, the fruits of creative partnership and art space community building are on full display
