SOIL and Tlaxcala3 are proud to present Latin American Land/Escapes, a show of fourteen Latin American artists from all over Mexico, Chile, Perú, Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and the D.R.
Earlier this year, SOIL collaborated with Tlaxcala3, a Mexico City art space, similar in our ethos of grassroot organizing and community building through art. We initiated a cultural art exchange by hosting two shows in dialogue with one another at each other’s respective spaces. SOIL’s Meander/Serpentina exhibition was about our respective cities’ relationship to the bodies of water they occupy and took place in February 2025 during the Mexico City Art Week.
Latin American Land/Escapes represents the second half of this exchange, kicking off during Seattle’s Art Fair weekend. There will be several auxiliary events surrounding the show, including two screenings at the Northwest Film Forum on July 23 and 24, as well as a panel discussion with members of both the Latin American Land/Escapes show as well as SOIL members to talk about the respective shows as well as the international collaboration.
Latin American Land/Escapes is an art exhibition that encompasses a political-poetic exercise of reflection and problematization. It delves into the actions, repercussions, and experiences (past and present) triggered by the supplantation of the concept of "Territory" by the idea of "Landscape."
