Lake Union Mixed Media Drawing Installation
Kiki MacInnis
June 01 – July 02, 2011
Reception / Thursday, June 02, 6–8pm
I am interested in making drawings that are not confined to a flat square surface. I insert time and space into the drawings but I want to present space that is distorted and impossible, yet believable. The Lake Union installation experiments with a large drawing that is variable in size and organization. I ask the viewer to step into the drawing and to participate in the invented space. The language is graphic and flat; shapes are cut out. Value is limited to three tones. Perception of space relies on scale changes, some conventional perspective and the geometry of a three sided room. Seeing the drawing requires turning one’s head. — Kiki MacInnis
