SOIL’s backspace gallery is cozy venue for Jeff McGrath’s intimate sculptures. Exploring the animism via clay reveals the characters evolving from the material. An eye here and a nose there make you realize that the lumps are spirited. Look even closer and you see his fingerprints and how the glaze has pooled in each ridge. McGrath’s subtle sophistication with the clay mimics nature with wit that is raw and refreshing.
