Due to COVID-19, SOIL’s May and June programming was moved to 2021. Instead of leaving this real estate empty, FishBowl Studio will activate the SOIL space into a temporary studio and exhibition space for SOIL members. Participants in the Fish Bowl will periodically go LIVE via SOIL’s Instagram @soilart page to showcase their work and answer questions from viewers.

Out of the Bowl! Additional SOIL members will share virtual glimpses of their studios or guest artists’ spaces @soilart  See works in progress, tools and media in use, and gain insight into their current practice.

McDonald will be using his time in the FishBowl Residency to begin preparation for the New Members show in August. This includes experimentation involving four large 96 x 48 inch panels. Initially obtained to cover the windows of a local art gallery closing in response to the statewide “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order, the leftover plywood will find new meaning and serve as a plane for his latest body of work.

May 13 – 21 / Forrest Perrine

Forrest Perrine is going to be using SOIL as the set for a show he’s making called What’s Not To Love? in which he interviews people about their creative practices. He will also be using it as a painting studio between shoots.

May 23 – 27 / Jocelyn Beausire

During her FishBowl Residency, Beausire will explore how the absence of her body represents in white-box space, how one can be an audience to a memory of action, and the stickiness of present time. These experiments will work with fresh apricots, white paint, fly paper, and sleep.
