In The Backspace

High School High

Christopher Buening

August 06 – 29, 2015
Reception / Thursday, August 06, 6–8pm

I really didn’t care about much in High School. I didn’t think I had much of a chance in life, being a gay kid who liked men. Certainly all I had heard from kids at school, my parents and what little I could glean from entertainment was that gay men lived lonely, horrible lives and died of AIDS. And my specific attractions seemed especially abnormal to me at the time.

I hung out with the ‘heshers/metalheads’, did drugs, got into trouble. I dressed like a biker and thought I wanted to be a tattoo artist. They were mean, lean years. This art is about that period in my life. — Christopher Buening
