Reception / Thursday, April 6, 6–9pm

SOIL’s upcoming show, PRESTO! Singular Work, Varied Compositions, features 6 artists’ works that will change in composition each week in April. As a tribute to all things building blocks and Lincoln logs, bold and subtle transformations demonstrate versatility, mobility, and a sense of play in these works.

Adam Bateman was raised in Ephraim, Utah, a town with more turkeys than people and more blue sky than anywhere. He speaks three languages: English, Spanish, and Portuguese. He travels a lot. His first kiss was to an East-Berliner (in ‘92) named Katerin, on a beach in France. He hasn’t seen her since. He believes that everything (everything) is part of a language. He stacks things. He arranges things. He composes things. He credits BYU (BA English, Spanish) and Pratt Institute (MFA, Sculpture), and Alba Patty Machado for his education.

Jose Bold (John Osebold) has composed music and sound design for theater in Seattle for ten years. His most prominent sound work includes compositions for theater/music hybrid band “Awesome” (awesometheband.com), multiple sound design creations for experimental theater group Defibrillator Productions, the creation and performance of co-written rock opera Ballyhoo, and various collaborations with Open Circle Theater, On the Boards, Annex Theater, and UMO Ensemble.

Corey Breneisen is currently living and working in Brooklyn, New York, making art in her basement studio while anxiously awaiting the birth of her baby. Inspired by her yoga practice that emphasizes both complete focus and complete letting go, Corey's art searches for a balance between meditation and play. Her rhythmic pieces from found objects undulating through space are reminders to just enjoy the pleasures of being right here, in this moment. When Corey is not creating in her studio, she can be found curled in her rocking chair with a big ball of wool and her knitting needles.

Brian Lane is a Seattle based photographer & printmaker. His most recent work documents the way society communicates social and political views as well as the first impressions made nonverbally through bumper stickers, vanity plates, and graffiti. He is the cofounder of Print Zero Studios and has shown at Gallery 4Culture.

Jason Marchiafava is a working artist living in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating with a BFA, summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota in 2001, he attended graduate school at Pratt Institute in New York. There he completed his Masters of Fine Arts in 2003, with an emphasis in sculpture. He has been exhibiting nationally since. His work utilizes a strong background in drawing methods, technology, and sculpture, and is often conceptual in nature.

Sara Osebold makes sculpture and installation-based works, many of which reference landscape and its inhabitants. Fascinated by natural history, science, and the culinary, her work demonstrates process and the combining of textures/items in playful and curious ways. Winter is her favorite season (go snow!). Upcoming events include installations at On the Board’s Northwest New Works Festival and at the Woolworth Windows in Tacoma. She received her MFA in sculpture from Pratt Institute in New York.
